Frequently Asked Questions
Can anything be done to increase the longevity of the line marking?
In short, yes.
Extra prep work can be done such as proper cleaning of the surface before the correct product is applied. This may involve pressure washing to remove as much dirt and debris as possible & concrete priming prior to painting. A sealant can be added after the paint has dried to provide an extra layer of protection.
What is longlife linemarking?
Longlife linemarking simply refers to the product being used. Main road line marking is not done in paint, its completed in a hot or cold thermoplastic mix which is applied much thicker than paint and offers a much longer lifespan. Bus stops and bike lanes are done in a special OMNI GRIP or equivalent which provides a textured gritty finish as well as the classic green/bus lane red look.
What can i do to ensure the linemarking is visible at night?
Prior to the linemarking product drying a specially designed glass reflective bead can be added to give the line marking both an anti slip and light reflecting finish.
When can we walk/drive over the linemarking?
We always recommend leaving all linemarking done in paint at least 24 hours to properly cure, this allows the chemicals in the paint to properly adhear and bind to the surface underneath. After about 30 minutes to 1 hour the paint is tac dry.
If longlife linemarking is being carried out the dry time is much much quicker, if cold applied we allow 15 minutes to 30 minutes, if applied hot dry time can be as quick as 5-10 minutes.
How often should linemarking be done?
On average most paint line marking has a lifespan through normal wear and tear of about 3-5 years this depends heavily on a few factors.
-
Prep work done prior to painting
-
Cleanliness of surface
-
Level of moisture and dirt debris on the surface
-
Age of the surface
